We stayed three nights at Dundonnie cottage at the foot of the lighthouse in mid October 2016. It was with some trepidation that we drove over the bridge to the cottages and the rain and wind added to the sense of foreboding. But we needn’t have worried. The cottage was really warm and inviting and we couldn’t hear the wind outside. The cottage is really well-equipped and the peat-burning fire is a really nice and practical touch. There are are many original features such as wooden window shutters.
If I was going to be super-critical, I would mention that the wifi is very slow and the selection of Freeview TV channels is extremely limited. But overall this is a charming cottage and I would definitely recommend it.

Had a lovely holiday at Buchan Ness Lighthouse. The cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed. Sheila was a friendly and excellent host and the gift of fizz and cupcakes when she found out my husband was celebrating a big birthday was a lovely touch. We will definitely be back and my only wish for next time is for some stormy weather while we are warm and snug by the peat fire!

We loved our recent short break at Buchan Ness lighthouse’s Skerry Cottage. We enjoyed the isolation, the atmosphere and the history of this special place. It gave an insight into what life would’ve been like for the keepers and their families. It was well equipped with exceptional views. We walked around the outside of the walls and saw seals and all manner if seabirds. The open fire was wonderful too and added to the whole experience. The only thing that we had a problem with, was the DVD player as we purposely bought our DVD of The Fog to watch, but it wouldn’t work. We would like to return in the future. Thank you Sheila.

I am just home from this location with friends. It was absolutely stunning. Skerry cottage where we stayed was equipped with everything you need. From towels to washing up liquid. The cottage itself was warm and cosy. It had a coal (peat) fire which we lit as it rained while we were there. It did not stop us having a great time. A big Thankyou to Sheila the owner who catered for all our needs. Plenty to see around the area and Peterhead is only 12 mins by car. A walk to the nearest hotel for some afternoon drinks. The owner took us home in her car as it was pouring rain. Another big Thankyou. Definetly go back and well worth a visit if you like something different.

I’ve been working in Peterhead for the last little while and staying at The Lighthouse. What a great place , superb accommodation and location . It was so good my family came to visit on numerous occasions.
Would highly recommend.

Had a lovely stay. Nice to meet Sheila and Mel and their dogs. View from skerry cottage decking was outstanding. Cottage had everything we wanted for good weather and bad. Pleasant surprise to see the bats fluttering around at night. Glad we brought our own toilet roll and dishcloth. Exceptional meal at buchan braes hotel and banoffee cocktail was particularly good. Nice to see the lighthouse flashing every night. We’llE be back next year.
